Manchester United are no longer chasing Tottenham’s Danny Rose, as the club have other positional needs to take care of, reports the Mirror, which could mean disaster for Ben Davies.

Rose, who had been the subject of interest from the Red Devils, had publicly stated his interest in moving north to be closer to his family.

However, it seems that Daniel Levy will keep hold of his England international in a dramatic U-turn, as Jose Mourinho’s pursuit ended when he signed Diogo Dalot.

This leaves Mauricio Pochettino with a potential squad selection headache leading into next season, as he will now have to axe Davies from the starting XI.

Davies racked up 38 appearances for Spurs last season as Rose battled with a number of injuries, and looked convincing, to say the least.

It is unlikely that the Wales international will want to lose his place in the first-team, but with the England international Rose ready and fit, he must be dropped.

The 27-year-old speed machine gives Spurs a more dynamic edge, and has always looked dangerous going forward, something that Davies (for all his defensive qualities) does not possess.

Rose is likely to start for England at the World Cup this summer, and Spurs fans can expect to see Pochettino watching closely to track the left-backs play, which ultimately could decide which player gets the role.

It was not too long ago that Rose was considered the best left-back in the Premier League and he has it within himself to get back towards that level.
