Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele is on the verge of exiting the club with Inter Milan that ongoing negotiations are on the verge of being agreed, according to Tutto Sport.

The Italian publication state on their website that the Serie A side’s director of football Piero Ausilio and chief football administrator Giovanni Gardini jetted in to London on Thursday to hold talks with the Lilywhites over securing the signing of the 30-year-old fan favourite, who has a year left on his contract.

It is said that Spurs are looking for up to £26.3million for his capture after 236 appearances for the club and that the Italian chiefs are willing to spend that sort of money on the Belgian international, with a confidence that overnight discussions will lead to an imminent agreement.

Opinion

It seems as though Dembele wants to leave and despite being one of Tottenham’s best players in recent months, it would be daft not to let him depart this summer with just a year left on his contract. Spurs are not in the position to bargain but they still look set to receive a fee in excess of £25million, which is a brilliant bit of business for an ageing midfielder who has suffered injury problems and is coming to the end of his time in north London. The Lilywhites will have to find an adequate replacement though, for none of the current options at Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal have shown anywhere near the same level of quality as the Belgian, and while the big money fee for his capture will help, it will also leave selling clubs demanding a premium price, knowing that Spurs have money to burn in their pocket.
