Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli is set to sign a new Tottenham contract that is likely to be announced “in the coming days”, according to Football London.

The Trinity Mirror site claim the attacking midfielder is close to extended terms as he becomes the latest first teamer to commit his long-term future to the club.

Football London report that Alli’s new deal will catapult him into the £100,000-a-week bracket at White Hart Lane as the club look to reward him for his immense progress over the last few seasons.

OPINION

It is a measure of Alli’s calibre that Spurs observers – including a significant of the club’s supporters – felt he underperformed last season, particularly after he ripped Real Madrid apart in that historic pre-Christmas Champions League clash at Wembley. Given that the 22-year-old racked up 14 goals and a further 14 assists from his playmaker position, it demonstrates the expectations hoisted upon a brilliant young talent and how often he does actually deliver. Alli is one of the Spurs holy trinity along with Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen, the three main matchwinners who are the first names on the teamsheet. The new contract is a statement of faith from Tottenham, and also a mechanism to protect a key playing asset. Whether there will be a release clause inserted is unknown at this point, but the Spurs faithful will certainly be gratified that potential buyers will be further put off from swooping for one of their key men.
