Newcastle are preparing to battle it out with Premier League rivals Huddersfield Town to land the signature of Club Brugge winger Anthony Limbombe, according to Belgian journalist Tomas Taecke.

The HLN reporter claimed on his personal Twitter account that Newcastle are preparing a bid to land the 23-year-old Belgium international along with Southampton and European clubs Schalke 04, RB Leipzig and Marseille.

The midfielder recently made his international debut for Belgium in March 2018, but is more inclined to a move to the Bundesliga according to Taecke – meaning that Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig could potentially be the favourites to land Limbombe – but Newcastle will battle it out with them to land the young talent.

Good move for Newcastle?

Limbombe must be flattered by the attention he is attracting all over Europe, but that is no surprise – the young ace made his international debut this year following a brilliant season with Club Brugge, helping them win the title in Belgium’s top flight.

He netted six goals and laid on a further seven assists during the season.

Limbombe clearly has the creativity to thrive in a Newcastle midfield that is lacking considerably, as well as the flair to create space and provide dazzling assists.

Likely to happen?

Newcastle must monitor his situation with a close eye, especially the activity of the German clubs interested in his services, as the Bundesliga is where he currently wants to play.

They need to increase any offer that either of the clubs submit if a move is likely to happen, otherwise it will be yet another player that falls from their grasp and onto a list of players they failed to snap up.
