Brighton defender Connor Goldson is on the verge of signing for Rangers for a fee in the region of £3.5 million according to Sun Sport.

The newspaper reports on their website that a deal is all but done for the 6″2 (source: Transfermarkt) centre back, and it is understood that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has agreed a seven-figure fee with the Seagulls for the 25-year-old colossus.

Gerrard first registered his interest for the defender in the middle of May as he looks to bring a host of new players in following his arrival at the Ibrox and it is stated the Gers manager has had talks with Goldson about the future at Rangers and it appears that he is fully on-board with the Liverpool legend’s plans.

Good move for Rangers?

Goldson has only made three appearances for Brighton this season in the Premier League and has failed to cement a place in the starting line up under boss Chris Hughton.

However, he was a regular in the first team before he had to endure open heart surgery which has stalled his progress during the last campaign.

Rangers need to start challenging Celtic for the title and Gerrard has obviously had Goldson on his radar to help him mount that challenge.

At 25 years old, he is approaching the prime of his career and the Gers boss will undoubtedly want to take advantage of that form.

He will get regular game time at the Ibrox compared to his time at the Amex, and that is something he will appreciate hugely.

Likely to happen?

The deal for Goldson is done and dusted as far as both clubs are concerned, which both parties are happy about.

Goldson will provide the stability in the back four that Rangers will appreciate next season, and regular game time will allow him to show off his talent.
