Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been left drooling over Olympique Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson as he plots a summer swoop, according to France Football.

The reputed publication claim on their website that the Argentine boss is a huge fan of the 23-year-old, who helped Marseille finish as runners up in the Europa League last month, and wants to take him to north London, although faces a fight with capital rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.

The versatile central star, who can play anywhere across the middle of the pitch, scored 12 goals for Marseille across all competitions last season, and is said to be part of a stunning plot which Tottenham have to become Premier League champions next campaign.

Good move for Tottenham?

At the present moment Spurs have plenty of midfield options and so a new recruit should hardly be their priority if they want to win the top flight title.

However, with much speculation over the future of Mousa Dembele, the 23-year-old could well be the long term replacement for the Belgian star – and with more goals to his name too.

Without the likes of Dembele or Harry Winks in the middle of the park, Spurs looked to struggle to have the quickness in moving the ball around the pitch, leaving the opposition with a chance to either defend, or win the ball back and launch a counter attack.

Sanson would definitely sort that issue out – just one of the reasons why Pochettino seems so enamoured with him.

Likely to happen?

It seems like there is to be a tough battle on Spurs’ hands if they want to get this one over the line, although a move to London seems incredibly likely with the clubs interested.

At the moment, Pochettino’s desperation to bring him in to the club’s new stadium sets them ahead of the chasing pack but there are no guarantees in football.
