Liverpool have not agreed terms with Olympique Lyonnais for star forward Nabil Fekir despite claims that a deal was all but done, according to journalist Ed Aarons.

The Guardian’s deputy sports news editor claims on his personal Twitter account that the Reds have rebuffed suggestions that the 24-year-old is on his way to have a medical on Sunday afternoon after it was claimed by Mootaz Chehade, the Canal Plus reporter, last week the two clubs had come to an agreement over a transfer.

It is stated that the French side are seeking a fee of around £62.5million (€70million) for the 11-cap attacker and that there would still have to be negotiations if a deal is to be agreed.

Opinion

The transfer window always brings about all sorts of rumours and this will not be the last of them at Anfield. Fekir has been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside and it would seem as though he is one of the Reds’ top targets, but the supporters will have to wait a little longer before they see him holding the shirt in front of the Kop. His dazzling form has seen Lyon slap a hefty price tag on his head and whether Liverpool are willing to meet that with a straight deal remains to be seen. There is no guarantee that he is going to be able to show the same form on a move to England and there will likely be some stipulations and clauses in the deal dependent on his performances – which will no doubt be slowing negotiations down. There might not be a medical on Sunday, but a lot can change over seven days and the Anfield faithful will be keeping a close eye on proceedings.
