Marouane Fellaini is one step closer to moving away from Manchester United with genuine interest from Arsenal’s new boss Unai Emery, according to Times journalist Paul Hirst.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account that Emery’s interest in the Belgian international is ‘genuine’ and that the former PSG manager had attempted to sign him in Paris.

It is understood that the midfield colossus, who stands at 6ft 4in according to transfermarkt, is now more likely to join the Gunners than agree a new deal with Premier League rivals United.

Good move for Arsenal?

Arsenal are desperate for some new legs in the midfield areas, and if Jack Wilshere is to leave, Fellaini will fill the void left behind.

However, the Gunners do already possess a number of defensive-minded midfielders, with the likes of Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny amongst the ranks.

Fellaini does bring a physical side with him that is not often found in players, and his height and stature make him the perfect man to win aerial duels in the middle of the park.

The best part surrounding this talk would be that Arsenal would not have to break the bank to land themselves an established Premier League midfielder.

Likely to happen?

If Paul Hirst is to be believed about Fellaini preferring Arsenal to resigning for Manchester United then this one could get over the line.

The attraction to remain in the Premier League is obvious, and Fellaini will want to remain in the League amongst interest from Italy.

With chances diminishing at Old Trafford, it seems likely that the Belgian international will want to seek ventures new in order to remain involved in the Belgium setup.
