Liverpool turn attention to Olsen

|

Liverpool have turned their attention to Sweden international Robin Olsen as their hunt for a new goalkeeper continues, according to Calciomercato

The Italian football site report that Roma and Napoli are also interested in the FC Copenhagen star, who put in an impressive World Cup debut for Sweden against South Korea.

Calciomercato claim that Roma are in pole position having already made their move for the 28-year-old stopper, but Copenhagen’s large financial demands are posing a problem at the moment.

Good move for Liverpool?

It is pretty hard to say whether this is a good move for the Reds or not.

Olsen has been in impressive form in Denmark for Copenhagen, keeping 45 clean sheets in 100 appearances for the Europa League club.

The 6ft 6in giant has done enough in 2017/18 to start for Sweden at the World Cup, and his opening display did suggest that the colossus is a decent stopper.

However, the fact that he is yet to be tested at the highest level of club football at 28 years old is a worry, and there would be big questions over whether Olsen is a better option than Liverpool’s current number one Loris Karius.

Likely to happen?

It is hard to say as it is very early days in Liverpool’s interest.

With Olsen playing at the World Cup, any move is unlikely to materialise until after Sweden’s elimination, and Liverpool have work to do if they are serious about a swoop.

Roma look to be in the driving seat, and Copenhagen are unlikely to let him go lightly.

The Reds therefore must move quickly to blow them out of the water for the 28-year-old, if their interest is indeed serious.
