Liverpool outcast Divock Origi will fight for his Anfield future this summer after a disappointing loan spell at VfL Wolfsburg, according to Het Laatste Nieuws.

The Belgian newspaper reports on their website that the unwanted Liverpool forward wants to fight for a place at the club by impressing boss Jurgen Klopp in pre-season training.

After falling to fourth in the queue in the strike force at Anfield, the 23-year-old was sent out on loan to Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg. However, Origi still has one year left on his contract at Liverpool and is determined to make a mark on Klopp.

OPINION

Origi made 37 appearances for the side who finished 16th in the Bundesliga last season, but had a disappointing campaign after only scoring seven goals in all of his appearances. It will take a lot to impress Klopp, especially when he has the likes of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to pick from. Origi will more than likely be sent out on loan again or sold on a permanent basis because he will be considered surplus to requirements sooner or later. He had the opportunity to impress Klopp while on loan in Germany, but he obviously has not made the most of this if he is needing a last chance to prove himself worthy to compete with the team’s star attacking trio.  At Anfield, he will hardly gain any regular game time let alone a regular first-team spot and it is best for him if he accepts he is no longer needed at Liverpool, and move on with dignity to a club who genuinely wants him and will play him regularly.
