Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has launched an astonishing £78.6million bid for Jan Oblak after Loris Karius’ shocker in the Champions League final, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish news website has reported that Klopp is looking to splash out on the 6″2 (source: Transfermarkt) colossus from Atletico Madrid to take over from current Kop number one Karius, as he looks to challenge his Premier League rivals for the title next season.

Don Balon claim that Liverpool are ready to test Atletico Madrid with a record-breaking bid for the Slovenia international, which if accepted, would make Oblak the most expensive goalkeeper in history.

Good move for Liverpool?

After Karius’ nightmare performance in the Champions League Final against Real Madrid, Klopp is wise to make a move for a new number one he can rely upon between the sticks.

The 25 year old made 49 appearances in all competitions during the 2017/2018 campaign, and would be a welcome addition to Anfield if the move is to be negotiated.

He has plenty of experience competing at a top level in La Liga with Atletico Madrid, and Klopp will be wanting to put that to good use next season.

If the Spanish outfit were to accept Liverpool’s offer, Oblak could establish himself as a firm fan favourite at Anfield if his performances are as consistent as last season’s.

Likely to happen?

Even before Karius’ performance in the Champions League Final, Klopp was already looking for a keeper to help him win the title next season.

It seems like Oblak is the player to solve Liverpool’s goalkeeping troubles, and it seems likely that Klopp will want to make a swoop for him before any of his rivals come sniffing.

All Liverpool need to do now is show they mean business, and make that record-breaking bid to bring the Slovenian giant to Merseyside.
