Liverpool’s electrifying Premier League Golden Boot winner, Mohamed Salah, has been selected to travel to Russia with the Egypt squad despite suffering a shoulder injury in this year’s Champions League final.

The Egyptian national team announced their squad selection via their official Twitter account to the delight of many fans, as it had previously been thought that Salah would not be able to play in the summer tournament.

Salah’s inclusion represents a statement of intent from the Egypt setup, who qualified for the World Cup for the first time since the 1990 Italian tournament largely due to the Liverpool winger’s sensational forward play.

The Egyptian was the top goal scorer throughout African qualification, netting five goals throughout Egypt’s six group matches.

It is unclear to what extent Salah will be able to play at the World Cup, but the signs are there to suggest that his injury is improving. The Liverpool man himself took to Twitter yesterday to post an image of his physio workout, giving light to the suggestion that he could be fit in time. Without the Premier League Golden Boot winner, it is hard to see Egypt escaping from their talented group,  a group that includes the tournament hosts Russia, as well as the always dangerous Uruguay and Saudi Arabia. If Salah is fit in time, and can display the same level of footballing elegance as he did this season for Jurgen Klopp’s team, The Pharaohs have a much higher chance of making history this summer by qualifying from their group, which they have never done before. A blistering performance by Salah could springboard him towards a future Ballon D’Or berth, as his play this season has been mesmerising.
