Liverpool are just 24 hours away from making their second signing of the summer as Jurgen Klopp closes in on a brilliant double attacking swoop, according to the Independent.

The newspaper report that huge strides have been made over a deal for Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri following the Potters’ relegation to the Championship, while a move for Nabil Fekir has been handed a boost as Lyon’s president accepts the attacking midfielder is desperate to move to Merseyside.

It is stated that the Swiss international has a release clause of just £12million after failing to help keep his club in the Premier League, and that Liverpool securing a deal for either of the pair could be done before the weekend in what would be great business for the Reds.

Good move for Liverpool?

The Reds lack the quality in depth behind the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane and bringing in some quality reinforcements will only help their cause on all fronts.

After their disappointment in the Champions League final, Jurgen Klopp will be seeking to go one better next season and end the campaign with some silverware, and to do that he will need options which allow him to rotate.

Shaqiri is a proven performer in the top flight and there will likely have been numerous clubs looking to pounce on that bargain release clause, while Fekir’s potential looks immense after his dazzling displays over in France.

It always is an exciting time for Liverpool fans, but it is about to head to the next level.

Likely to happen?

One seems a certainty, while securing both is still well within the realms of reality.

A move to Anfield is always an attractive proposition and after proving themselves on the European stage, there will be few stars who would tun down their advances.

Liverpool seem to have these two in the bag – the question on fans’ lips is who is next?
