Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their hunt for Barcelona goalkeeping ace Jasper Cillessen with the Catalan giants slashing their asking price, according to Marca.

The Spanish publication report on their website that the La Liga champions are willing to see the 29-year-old Dutch international leave for around half of the £52.4million (€60million) release clause that is in his contract, with Barca said to be open to an offer of £30.5million (€35million) to see him leave.

It is said that as well as the Reds, there are a number of Premier League clubs chasing the 39-cap ace, having been stuck on the fringes at the Nou Camp with just 21 appearances since signing back in 2016.

Good move for Liverpool?

After the goalkeeping howlers the Anfield faithful have seen over the last couple of years, there is a definite need for a new face between the sticks.

Cillessen might not have been playing regular football but that is not for a lack of talent but the quality of competition he faces at Barca in the shape of first choice stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

He would be a vast improvement on the options on Merseyside and his international experience could help take the Reds to the next level by shoring up a shaky back line.

Plus, with his asking price cut to around half, it is a relative bargain in a time when transfer fees are astronomical, especially for a player who has been at the top of his game for so many years.

Likely to happen?

Well, Liverpool are certainly in the market for a goalkeeper, and with the incredible asking prices being slapped on the heads of the likes of Alisson Becker, Jurgen Klopp may well be tempted to save some cash and go for Cillessen.

The Dutch stopper could be in high demand though, and it will take something of a battle for Liverpool to come away with his signing this summer.
