Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is not interested in signing Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope and Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper reports on their website in a major development that despite been strongly linked to the shot-stopping duo, Klopp does not have any intentions to sign either goalkeeper for the Reds despite facing a keeper crisis.

The Liverpool manager is looking to improve his squad this summer, with the number one spot a main priority after Loris Karius’ howlers in the Champions League Final. Klopp wanted competition between the sticks, but he has appeared to change his mind about signing England international Pope despite the stopper being a target.

OPINION

Despite the club currently facing a goalkeeping fiasco, it is strange that Klopp has no intentions to sign either goalkeeper to replace Karius. He cost Liverpool two chances in the Champions League Final, and most managers would have replaced him by now. Strakosha is an established Albanian international who has performed well for Serie A outfit Lazio during the 2017/2018 campaign, and Pope was selected to join the England squad for this summer’s World Cup tournament. The Reds’ goalkeeping situation looks far from over, and it remains unclear what Klopp’s next move will be – however, this news implies that he may stick with Karius between the sticks. His mistakes on that night in Kiev are not a repeated occurrence and Klopp may be willing to give the keeper another chance at Anfield, providing he does not cost Liverpool vital points with avoidable errors. Whatever Klopp decides to do about Liverpool’s goalkeepers, the supporters will back him all the way.
