Everton are planning to offload veteran defender Ashley Williams and will listen to any offers for the 33-year-old, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper’s live blog (10.43am) reports that boss Marco Silva will be willing to hear offers from interested clubs for the Wales international, as he plans to overhaul the squad at the start of his reign at Goodison Park.

It is understood that the senior Everton player will not actively look for a move himself though, which may disrupt Silva’s plans to offload him.

OPINION

Williams excelled at the 2016 European Championships with Wales, helping his country reach the semi-finals after a surprise victory against Belgium. He is a trusted defender for both club and country, but is reaching the age in which he is getting slower, meaning his ability to keep up with speedy wingers and skilled strikers will have decreased. Silva undoubtedly wants to reinvigorate the Everton team and the place of a 33-year-old centre-back does not fit into his new plans to breathe life into a rather ordinary team. Williams would be better suited to a team coming up to the Premier League, such as Cardiff City – who will jump at the chance to snap up an experienced defender like the Welshman. Unfortunately, his days in the Premier League are numbered and he should make the most of any offers that come his way if it means prolonging his playing career for a little while longer.
