Leighton Baines could be set for the Everton exit according to the Mirror, potentially following team mate Wayne Rooney across the pond to join the MLS, much to the dismay of the Everton faithful on social media.
The newspaper reports that MLS clubs Philadelphia Union and Chicago Fire are keen on bringing the defender to America as the 33-year-old senior player’s career at Goodison Park nears it conclusion.
Boss Marco Silva has been searching for long-term replacements for the former England international with Sky Sports saying Bayer Leverkusen left-back Wendell is at the top of his list this summer.
Baines made 30 appearances for England since his debut in 2010, starring in a number of tournaments for the national team.
He has established himself as a firm fan favourite at Goodison Park, committing 11 years to the club since his arrival from Wigan in 2007 – but it looks as though his time in Merseyside is coming to an end.
Everton fans may have their hopes restored, as Wendell possesses similar qualities to Baines that would establish him as a solid left-back, if Silva goes ahead with the club’s interest.
Here is a selection of tweets from Everton supporters reacting to the possible departure of fan favourite Leighton Baines:
Good time for both to move on and let younger talent step up

We all love LB and I don't think he wants to leave but pressure is on now to improve not only our first team but also the squad. His legs have gone, I wish him all the very best but I don't see a playing future for him at @Everton this season
