Everton are plotting a summer raid to sign Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney as a replacement for long-term stalwart Leighton Baines, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper reports on their website that the 21-year-old, who is an absolute favourite at Parkhead, is being eyed at by boss Marco Silva as a potential replacement for veteran left-back Baines, 33, who looks to be departing the club to play in America amid interest from Chicago Fire.

The Scottish defender only recently penned a new six-year deal at Celtic Park, but the Toffees are said to be ready to test Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers by submitting a bid to bring the young Scot to Merseyside in what could be “one of their big additions” of the transfer window.

Good move for Everton?

Yes, absolutely. The youngster is one of Celtic’s most prized assets after contributing to their title win last season after making 28 appearances in the league, and laying on a further 11 assists in all competitions.

He is the perfect replacement for former England international Baines, who cannot cope with the speed of the Premier League anymore. Just like the 33-year-old, Tierney is able to surge forward and produce dangerous crosses for his team mates.

Everton would be very lucky to have a player like Tierney amongst their ranks.

Likely to happen?

Yes, possibly. Premier League rivals Tottenham have come sniffing before after viewing the Celtic star as a replacement for their left-back Danny Rose, but Everton do not need to worry as their interest seems to have cooled recently.

Rodgers will be very reluctant to sell one of his best players with the oncoming challenge from Rangers next season, so Everton will have to make a reasonable bid if they want to land Tierney.

The Toffees are now in pole position to sign one of Scotland’s brightest talents, and move will be likely if they offer the right money.
