Bayern Munich hunt Everton’s Pickford

|

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is being eyed up for a move to German title winners Bayern Munich this summer after his impressive season for the Toffees, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that the Bundesliga champions have been jetting out to watch the 24-year-old over the season and will be in attendance at England’s World Cup games to run the rule over the former Sunderland man, who left the Stadium of Light after the Black Cats’ relegation in 2017.

Arriving at Goodison Park, the six foot (source: Transfermarkt) shot stopper turned out to be the bright spark for the Toffees in a roller coaster campaign, with his stunning form between the sticks earning him both the club’s player and young player of the season awards.

Good move for Everton?

Absolutely not.

Pickford really was one of the few things Everton fans had to cheer over the last nine months and it is testament to how disappointing the rest of the squad were that he picked up a duo of awards at the end of the campaign.

Probably a shoe-in for the number one shirt with England at the World Cup, his stock will continue to rise over the years and letting him go would be a huge mistake for the Toffees, for it would mean having to source another decent shot stopper – which are in high demand this summer.

Bayern might be willing to pay through the nose but no amount of money should be able to convince the Toffees to sell up.

Likely to happen?

There are not many English players who are leaving the Premier League to go and ply their trade elsewhere and it would be a massive shock were Pickford to be one of those few names.

He seems settled at Goodison Park and playing week in, week out with the Merseyside club means he keeps the attention of Gareth Southgate.

Heading to Bayern would put him up against Manuel Neuer and that is a battle that the German shot stopper should win relatively easily.
