Everton must join the race for FC Porto’s Miguel Layun after his World Cup display has reportedly caused several impressive teams to be interested in him.

The 29-year-old Mexican international put in an impressive display to help his nation take Germany by surprise in the international tournament by beating them 1-0.

According to AS in Spain his performance has caught the eye of Arsenal, Milan as well as Marseille who are all now prepared to sneak in and bid for him if Sevilla don’t purchase him.

Layun spent the second half of his 2017/18 campaign on loan at the La Liga side, making 18 appearances for them, and they have an option to purchase him for 6million euros (£5.2million).

However AS’ report claims that the Spanish side seem unlikely to trigger their option to purchase the player as the clause is set to expire in 10 days  and as of yet, they haven’t made a move.

The Toffees are in dire need of signing a new left-back in order to cover for Leighton Baines, who is their only natural option in that position, and Layun’s arrival would solve that problem.

The 29-year-old is just as adept as playing as a right-back as he is a left-back and would be a fantastic signing due to his versatility.

Layun also is an accurate passer of the ball and is very deadly from set-pieces which would help the Toffees score goals next season.

The versatile footballer can whip in dangerous corners while also being a threat from direct free-kicks and his arrival would not only improve the Merseyside club’s defence but it would also improve their attack due to these attributes.

Given that Porto were originally willing to sell him for £5.2million then the Toffees could find themselves completing a bargain bit of business by signing him.

This means that the Toffees must swoop for the 29-year-old to solve their issue regarding the problem of left-back especially after the defender’s recent World Cup display gained him a lot of admirers.
