Club officials from Turkish side Fenerbahce have been spotted at the Dorchester Hotel in London this week ahead of a swoop for Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina according to Turkish Football.

The report states that following the Gunners’ capture of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, a move for the Colombian goalkeeper would be on the cards after being pushed down the pecking order even further.

The 29-year-old fringe player moved to the Emirates back in 2014 from Ligue 1 side Nice but aside from cup competitions failed to break into the first team on a regular basis.

Ospina’s contract comes to an end next summer and it makes sense that the Gunners would choose to sell him now to maximise their chances of getting a fee for the stopper.

Good move for Arsenal?

Yes, with Petr Cech and Leno ahead of him there is no way that Ospina will even be getting a run out in the reserve team let alone the first team so it is best for the Colombian international to leave North London where he can head to the Turkish Super Lig with a greater chance of getting into the starting XI.

The presence of the stopper hardly gave Arsene Wenger’s defence an assuredness which suggested he was unflappable and there were a number of occasions where he was guilty of making a howler or two which new manager Unai Emery is surely going to be looking at eradicating.

Likely to happen?

We would be shocked if Ospina was to remain at the Emirates beyond the end of the transfer window. Of course, stranger things have happened, but we just cannot see it.

A move to Turkey would certainly make sense and would also give the 6ft ace (source: Transfermarkt), the opportunity of playing Champions League football and at this stage of his career that must be what he would want to be doing.
