Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund for a bargain price of just £16 million, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper reports on their website that the 6″1 (source: Transfermarkt) colossus is to be the second summer signing of new boss Unai Emery’s reign, as he looks to strengthen the Gunners’ defence with a game-changing defender ahead of his debut season in the Emirates Stadium dugout.

The 30-year-old Greek international, who has 79 caps for his country, is said to have penned a three year deal at the Emirates from German club Borussia Dortmund – who finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season – but the steal of a move is not to be revealed by the club until next month.

Good move for Arsenal?

Having made 43 appearances in Germany in the 2017/2018 campaign, the Greek international brings a wealth of experience as a defender that Arsenal are in dire need of, having looked vulnerable at the back in recent years.

Following the signing of fellow experienced defender Stephan Lichsteiner, the centre back will form a vital partnership with his fellow newbie that will ensure the North London club do not leak in clumsy goals that could cost them vital points in the race for the top four next season.

Likely to happen?

The deal is to be officially announced next month, so no other clubs can come sniffing and hijack the move.

The deal has been put to paper, and will be the perfect opportunity for the 79 capped international to showcase his experience and talent in the Premier League.

He will undoubtedly make the starting line up for Arsenal and the move will be relief for Emery as he sets to turn Arsenal’s future around.
