Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is bound for the exit this summer following the arrival of new signing Bernd Leno, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian sports website reports that the 6’4″ (source: Transfermarkt) colossus stopper will be surplus to requirements at the Emirates and could be reunited with his former manager Carlo Ancelotti, who was the keeper’s manager at Chelsea, at Serie A Napoli, who are interested in a shock loan deal for the 36-year-old.

If boss Unai Emery finalises a deal for German keeper Bernd Leno, then the Gunners number one will be looking for another club, with his contract expiring next summer, along with David Ospina who is also set for the exit from North London.

OPINION

The former Czech international was once one of the best shot stoppers in the world in his time at Chelsea and Arsenal have undoubtedly made the most of this form since they signed him for £14 million from their London rivals. Arsene Wenger was hugely reliant on Cech during his Arsenal days and made him his undisputed number one, but his age has recently counted against him and Emery will be looking for someone younger who has a long-term future at the Emirates. Leno seems to fit that bill perfectly, and unfortunately for Cech, this spells the end of his Arsenal career. However, all is not lost for the veteran stopper as a reunion with his ex-boss Ancelotti appears to be on the cards – who seems keen to take Cech on board. It is time for him to make way for the younger generation of goalkeepers and play out the remainder of his career under a manager who knows him best.
