Newcastle United have not made an approach to Swansea City for Jordan Ayew nor are they close to a deal for West Bromwich Albion striker Solomon Rondon, according to the Chronicle.

The report has revealed that contrary to a story from Football Ghana, that a deal for the Swans attacker was on the cards, that is not the case.

The Chronicle state that Ayew, who can play on the left wing or as a centre-forward, is being offered to a number of Premier League clubs by his agent after deciding that he wants to quit the Welsh side out in search of top-flight football.

As for Rondon, the striker has a £16.5million release clause in his contract but he is also attracting interest from Tottenham, Inter Milan, Chelsea and West Ham, which means that with high wages also an issue, the Magpies are unlikely to have much of a chance of getting their man.

OPINION:

This transfer window is starting to look like many of the others that have gone before under Mike Ashley’s tenure as the owner of Newcastle United following this huge update. As it stands it looks as though Rafa Benitez is having to scrimp and save in order to get the players he wants in at St James’s Park. The Magpies desperately need to secure at least one top-quality forward this summer and Rondon would certainly come into that category but maybe they will have to do similarly as they did with Kenedy in the January transfer window and hope they can land one or two gems on loan who can inject the quality and enthusiasm into the side that the Brazilian did during his short spell at St James’ Park. But Benitez must rectify their goalscoring issues otherwise they will be dabbling with relegation once more in the new season and a backlash from supporters is bound to ensue.
