It would come as no surprise to fans of either Everton or Newcastle United if they were said to be chasing the same transfer targets across the summer window.

The two clubs, who finished eighth and tenth respectively in the Premier League, have a lot in common in terms of their history and status, and both are sleeping giants with big ambitions for the future.

Both clubs came head-to-head in the transfer market 12 months ago over a swoop for Sandro Ramirez, and while the Toffees came out on top for the Spanish striker, his arrival did not have the desired effect.

Now it is stated by Marca that the pair of clubs will battle it out for another hitman, this time the target being Sporting’s colossus Dutch forward Bas Dost.

The report claims both clubs are very interested in the 29-year-old’s capture and his record shows why.

Standing at 6’4″ (source: Transfermarkt), the giant striker has netted 70 goals over the past two seasons in Portugal, which have come at an astounding rate in just 90 outings.

He might not have shown the same form on the international stage, with just one goal in 18 appearances, but there can be no doubting he knows where the goal is.

With Newcastle desperately needing some sort of firepower up front, the target man is as good an option out there with his prolific form, and Rafael Benitez must be thinking of taking revenge on the Toffees for snapping Sandro from under his nose.

Premier League defences beware – your lives might just get a whole lot harder with Dost around.
