Liverpool will attempt to sign Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope this summer with an eight-figure bid worth £15million in the pipeline, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Lancashire outfit are unlikely to turn down any move for the 6ft 2in colossus (transfermarkt), with Tom Heaton’s return to the first-team following a shoulder injury that had allowed Pope his opportunity.

Both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have failed to live up to the pressures of the game at the highest level and the German was to blame for two of the goals the Reds conceded in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Mignolet has previously admitted that he would be looking at quitting Anfield in search of more game time as the position at the back is looking in desperate need of improving.

Good move for Liverpool?

Pope has been in sensational form for the Clarets since coming into the team but on the European stage, Pope has not been tested and it remains to be seen whether he is the answer to their crisis between the sticks.

However, renowned publication, Four Four Two, ranked the 26-year-old behind only David De Gea in March in terms of save percentage which was at the time 79.4% and total saves which was 85. The Burnley player also had nine clean sheets at that time but ended the season with 12.

Likely to happen?

Pope has a contract at Turf Moor until 2020 with an option to extend by a further year so Jurgen Klopp and co. will have to put their hands in their back-pocket but £15m is a snip of a price to pay compared to the vast sums of money being talked about for the likes of Jan Oblak and Alisson.

We can see the Reds sealing the deal for the Clarets stopper but whether his signing will appease supporters fears for the position is questionable.
