There are many similarities between Scottish giants Rangers and Championship heavyweights Leeds United.

Both clubs have endured financial difficulties, bitter disappointment and more recently a change of managers, both sides appointing their third boss since the start of 2017.

The pair hold serious ambitions going forward – the Gers to combat Celtic’s reign of dominance north of the border and the Whites to break into the top six and push for a return to the Premier League.

Steven Gerrard and Marcelo Bielsa are both ambitious appointments in their own rights, and Leeds fans may be hoping that Andrea Radrizzani takes a leaf out of the Ibrox chiefs’ book and follows the exciting signings that the Light Blues have been making.

Despite six new faces through the doors, the ambition has not stopped, with Football Insider claiming that Gerrard has launched talks to try and prise Saido Berahino from Stoke City in a truly stunning swoop.

The 24-year-old was tipped as one of the next bright things in England and while things have not gone to plan in the Premier League – without a goal in 30 appearances since joining the Potters back in January 2017 – he is still the sort of signing Rangers fans could have only dreamed of over the last couple of years.

However, with Leeds in desperate need of attacking firepower up front, Bielsa should be hijacking that move straight away.

The former West Brom man has fallen off the cart at Stoke and needs to regain confidence and continue his development in an environment which will support but test him.

Bielsa is one of the most revered coaches in the game and he could very well sort out the striker’s issues off the pitch and get him back to his best on it.

It might be a risky move to make but if anyone in the Championship can help him rediscover his form, it will be the Argentine boss.
