Leeds United might just have moved one step closer to capturing their first signing of the summer window after Derby County reportedly launched a bid for League One striker Jack Marriott.

That is because should the Rams land the Peterborough United goal machine, with his 33 goals last season, it is likely to begin a transfer domino effect involving Matej Vydra.

The Whites have reportedly been in hot pursuit of Derby’s hitman since the window flew open but have so far been unable to tie up a deal for last season’s leading goalscorer.

It was revealed in a report from the Daily Mail on Thursday that Leeds have tabled a bid thought to be in excess of £12million bid for Vydra – which could well be the catalyst for events to unfold.

Pete O’Rourke, a reliable journalist, revealed through HITC that Derby, along with Championship rivals Bristol City, had tabled a bid for Marriott, with Leeds named as another potential suitor for his capture.

It is said that it will take £7million for the Posh to part ways with their red hot forward but Derby will know they will be able to recoup that by accepting Leeds’ offer for Vydra.

It can be expected that should Derby have their offer accepted for Marriott it will see Czech star Vydra heading out of Pride Park and heading on his way to Elland Road in what will be a real signal of intent from Leeds ahead of the new Championship campaign.
