Leeds United fans have been left fuming after claims that the Whites had been in touch with Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce over filling the vacant seat in the Elland Road dugout this summer.
The Telegraph report on their website that with negotiations involving former Lille boss Marcelo Bielsa progressing slowly, thus casting doubts over whether he will take over as the new manager, Leeds have made contact with the former Hull City and Sunderland man over replacing Paul Heckingbottom.
It is stated that Bruce is yet to respond to the approach, with his future at Villa Park in major doubt as a result of the club’s financial meltdown following their failure to secure promotion back to the Premier League, despite the former Manchester United defender guiding his side to the play off final.
Bruce has established himself as something of a Championship expert, with two promotions apiece while at Birmingham and Hull.
However, the Elland Road faithful were less than impressed to see his name linked with a move to their club, suggesting that his style of play would be a step backwards and that they want a more exciting coach, such as Bielsa, to take charge, while others bemoaned his Old Trafford links, highlighting the rivalry between the two sides has not subsided.

Imagine Steve Bruce as the new #LUFC manager. A former red. That would be like your being the best man for the bloke your wife cheated on you with.

In no case would I be happy with Bruce as manager. Look at how boring and average Villa were even with the absolute fortunes they spent on wages and transfers. Brexit Brucey is not the answer. #lufc
