Leeds United are in the hunt for the signing of prolific Derby County striker Matej Vydra this summer, but they will have to splash the cash or swap a player, according to Sun reporter Alan Nixon.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Sunday that the Czech Republic international is on the radar at Elland Road, but it will certainly come at a cost for the Whites to sign him up.

Vydra was the top scorer in the Championship last season, with 21 goals to his name as well as a further four assists and is under contract at Pride Park until 2020.

The striking position was an Achilles heel for the Whites last season and an area of the side in need of strengthening.

OPINION

The quality of Leeds United’s targets this summer ought to be a cause for a great deal of excitement for supporters. With Abel Hernandez thought to be in advanced and prolonged talks with the Yorkshire club following his rip-roaring return to the Hull City line-up after an injury-induced spell on the sidelines, it all seems to have gone quiet with the suggestion that Jerry Mbakogu was set for a move to the Championship outfit which will please fans all the more. The 26-year-old Czech ace was one of the stars of the league last season and if the Whites could land him, as well as a couple of other top quality acquisitions to key areas, you would have to think that Leeds would be well on their way to becoming one of the sides to look out for going into the new season. However, with no manager yet in place of Paul Heckingbottom, you would have to think the club’s attention will be focused on resolving that first.
