Nottingham Forest are close to signing winger Gil Bastiao Dias from Monaco according to a reputable journalist.

Trusted and well-known journalist John Percy reported on his personal Twitter account the 21-year-old will have a medical later today and Forest hope to complete the transfer in the next 48 hours.

It’s stated that the Portuguese will join the club on loan for the season, but will have an option to purchase the player.

If the signing goes through, this will be the fourth deal done at The City Ground so far this window, as boss Aitor Karanka assembles his squad for next season.

OPINION

It seems that Forest boss Aitor Karanka means business in this transfer window. The signing of Monaco winger Gil Bastiao Dias would be a huge coup, the 21-year-old was on loan at Italian club Fiorentina last season where he made 29 appearances in Serie A, scoring two goals and providing two assists in all competitions. The Portuguese can play as a winger on either side of the pitch, or in behind the striker. His signature will add another young attacking player to an already youthful and exciting squad containing the likes of Ben Osborn, Ben Brereton, Zach Clough, Tyler Walker and Jason Cummings. Their attack looks like it could be a force in the Championship, and If Karanka can make a few more defensive signings as the window goes on, they might be able to achieve a balance in the squad and challenge for a playoff spot, or maybe even higher.
