Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce’s future is in the balance as the club have not yet told him if they want him to continue as manager, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper reports on their website that the club’s hierarchy have failed to communicate with Bruce since Villa just missed out on promotion to the Premier League last month, which has since brought about Financial Fair Play problems to Villa Park.

It is understood that 57-year-old Bruce would like to stay in charge of the Villians next season and help them challenge for Premier League promotion, but only if the owners decide that they want to back him for another campaign.

OPINION

The loss to Fulham in the Play-Off Final was undoubtedly heartbreaking, for Bruce as well as the players and fans. However, the former Manchester United defender is full of top-class managerial experience and the Villa board would be mad to let him go.He has had one arm tied behind his back for the last 12 months due to the stupid spending that happened before his time at Villa Park started and leading a team to a Championship Play-Off Final is no easy feat due to how tough and long the season can be, and there is no reason why he cannot repeat this achievement if he is backed. Money problems aside, the owners need to make it clear to Bruce about where his future lies, as leaving your manager in the lurch after a successful season is undoubtedly unfair. Unless the board have a potential replacement for Bruce already lined up, then they need make contact with him imminently.
