Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is lining up a potential move for former Leicester City man Robert Huth to replace the recently departed John Terry, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The news website reports that following Villa’s loss to Fulham in the Championship Play-Off Final in May, 37-year-old Terry was not offered an extension on his contract after his one year deal at the club ended. After making 36 appearances for the club as captain, it looks as though Huth could potentially replace the veteran defender.

Despite only making one appearance for the Foxes during the 2017/2018 campaign after being plagued with injury, Bruce appears to be seriously considering the 6ft 3in (source: Transfermarkt) powerhouse to fill the space left behind by Terry after his exit from Premier League club Leicester was confirmed.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Now a free agent after recently departing Leicester City, the 33-year-old defender has plenty of top-flight experience to his name that Bruce will be wanting to take advantage of.

After narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier League last season, Villa will want all the experience they can get, and Huth appears to fit the bill.

A move for a player like Huth would be wise if Bruce wants his team to push for promotion once again.

The German-born centre back possesses similar qualities to fan favourite Terry, and has the talent to spearhead Villa’s back four.

Likely to happen?

Bruce will be desperate to replace Terry with a player of the same calibre, so a move for Huth could potentially be on the cards if the Aston Villa boss is serious about his interest.

With Villa needing a replacement in defence and Huth looking for a new club, it appears to be the perfect opportunity for both parties.

All Steve Bruce needs to do now is accelerate his interest and make the swoop.
