The arrival of new boss Unai Emery comes a new, invigorated sense within Arsenal that the team are capable of great things next season, which has only been reinforced through their promising activity in this transfer window.

Now they are said to be targeting Mario Gotze of Borussia Dortmund, according to Sky Sports, and they must smash aside their Premier League rivals in order to bring the German to the Emirates.

Everton and West Ham have also reportedly expressed interest in the 26-year-old, and Arsenal must do all in their power to bring him in this transfer window in what could be their biggest signing of the summer.

Gotze’s World Cup winning pedigree would be paramount to the Gunners, who lack that ground-breaking player that can really scare other teams off, especially in the bigger matches that could make or break their season.

When you think of title winners Manchester City, you think of Sergio Aguero or Kevin de Bruyne, but when it comes to Arsenal, there is not any real threat there that a side needs to be fully prepared for.

In Gotze, you have a player who has the creativity to run at defenders and create opportunities, and even score goals if need be – and that is why Emery needs to swoop for the attacking midfielder, or else regret it when one of the rivals snap him up.

With the regular German international failing to make Joachim Low’s squad for this World Cup, Arsenal have no excuse but to start negotiating for his transfer.

He has struggled to regain the form that saw him score Germany’s winning goal in the 2014 final against Argentina, but he can flourish in the Premier League under Emery in a reinvigorated squad, and give Gunners’ fans a reason to rate their team’s hopes in achieving something great in this coming 2018/2019 campaign.
