Arsenal have been handed a huge transfer boost after reported target Miguel Layun admitted his future is ‘complicated’, as relayed by Cadena SER – meaning Arsenal must now snap him up before it is too late.

The Gunners’ interest in Layun dates back to earlier in June, in which Spanish publication AS revealed that Arsenal were planning a £5.5 million swoop for the Sevilla enforcer.

In an interview with the Spanish sports website, the 30-year-old defender has now admitted that La Liga outfit Sevilla had not yet contacted him or his agent as to regards to his future at the club as the Gunners keep the right-back on their radar.

The Mexican international was quoted by the media outlet as saying: “I’m just like everyone, waiting for something to be confirmed. I’m totally focused on what I want to achieve here [the World Cup], but of course there is always that issue of not knowing what will be of my future.

“It’s complicated. But I think if they had the intention [to sign me] they would have already communicated with me and my agent.”

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been seeking out defensive reinforcements in this transfer window, which is an area of the field in which the Gunners have been lacking for some time now.

Layun would be an excellent addition to Arsenal, and at 30-years-old, will add some much-needed experience to a back-four that is relatively young.

This bombshell made by the Mexican will be a huge boost to the North London-outfit, who are attempting to freshen up their squad in time for next season.

He has experience in a competitive league, playing amongst the best players in the world – it arguably seems bizarre that Sevilla have not yet contacted him to secure his services for next season.

Emery will need to pounce on this bombshell rather quickly, especially as Layun has not been offered the opportunity to stay at this moment in time. Arsenal must now sign him in the midst of this surprising news, or else regret it if they do not.
