Arsenal fans have had mainly frustrated reactions on Twitter after new boss Unai Emery cooled off any interest in signing Brighton defender Lewis Dunk according to the Mirror.

The Seagulls centre-back was said to be a top transfer target for previous Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, but the north London side are said to have told Dunk that they have no plans to sign him this summer after already bringing in defensive reinforcements.

This news was met with mixed reactions from Gunners’ fans, who were mainly frustrated at the new boss for not pursuing Dunk’s services, with supporters referring to the Brighton-born player as “top class” and “a very good defender”, however some labelled him as “nowhere near good enough” and an “own goal merchant.”

OPINION

Arsenal cooling off their interest in the Brighton defender has certainly had a mixed reaction from Gunners’ fans, who were both frustrated and pleased at the news. However, as much as Dunk has had impressive displays during the 2017/2018 campaign, some of the Arsenal fans are right – he is not yet good enough to meet the demands of a top-six team, especially with his tendency for own goals. Nevertheless, some fans want to see the squad overhauled by Emery, and some have obviously spotted the fact that Dunk would have fit the bill. The back four were prone to leaking clumsy goals, especially to teams in the bottom half of the table, of whom they should be beating. The fans are frustrated about this news, the same as they are frustrated that Arsenal have not made a major signing yet.
