Everton may reportedly be a possible destination for Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, but a move makes no sense and should be avoided at all costs.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Goodison Park could be the 34-year-old’s new home next season after confirmation he will leave Man City, while Burnley and Huddersfield are also listed as interested.

However, the Toffees would be putting square pegs in round holes if they bring the Ivory Coast international to the club.

Sam Allardyce’s squad still look someway from competing at the top-end of the Premier League table and need to make some serious investments in the summer.

The Merseyside club must add some real quality and look to build their team around current star players such as Jordan Pickford, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Idrissa Gueye.

Toure would have been a perfect addition when he was in his peak years, but has deteriorated this campaign and played a minimal role on the pitch in their Premier League triumph.

He used to be a midfield powerhouse that dictated matches, but is a shadow of that player in his latter years and looks far too lazy.

The central midfielder has also not scored in any of his 16 appearances across all competitions this term and his decline should only stretch over the next 12 months.

Everton would be wasting a serious amount of money on wages if he was to join and that should be placed elsewhere to improve the squad, with the need for some fresh centre-backs and strikers required.

Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin can form a strong midfield axis when they are on form, but bringing in another quality in his prime years could be a smart move.
