West Ham are interested in signing AC Milan winger Fabio Borini this summer, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian news website claims that the Hammers are keen in landing the 27-year-old alongside Italian giants Napoli.

It is understood that the left-winger only completed a permanent switch to Milan this summer for around £5.2million after a successful 2017/18 loan spell in Italy.

The report details that Napoli feel they can snap him up already this summer, while West Ham are also monitoring his situation.

Good move for West Ham?

Borini has previously failed in English football during spells with the likes of Sunderland, Liverpool and Chelsea.

He was originally a centre-forward in the early stages of his career and has been transformed into a wide man with a great work-rate, while he can also play at full-back.

The Italian managed five goals and seven assists for Milan this campaign on loan, but that shouldn’t be enough to convince West Ham to sign him.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini needs to players with proven quality in the English top flight and he would be too big a risk.

Likely to happen?

Borini only joined Milan on a permanent basis this summer and it seems unlikely that he would return to England so soon after rediscovering his best form in Serie A.
