Everton are unlikely to sign Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt this summer, according to Football.London.

The reliable news website claims that it appears Palace will not be willing to let the 27-year-old leave this summer and that he has built up a great relationship at Selhurst Park.

It is understood it would take a “considerable offer” for anyone to sign the left-sided flyer, who still has three years remaining on his contract.

The twist that Palace look unlikely to sell the left-back comes after the Daily Mail reported that Everton could revive their interest in him and pursue him this summer.

Everton’s director of football, Marcel Brands, is well aware of the attack-minded defender and the Toffees had been linked with him.

Good move for Everton?

Van Aanholt ended the season in brilliant form for Palace and turned himself into a goalscoring defender, netting five times in 32 appearances across all competitions.

The Dutchman quite often bombs down the left-wing and he would be a decent signing for new Everton manager Marco Silva following his confirmed arrival on Thursday afternoon.

Everton need to find a long-term successor to the ageing Leighton Baines and Palace’s speed machine would tick a lot of the boxes.

Likely to happen?

The latest report has rubbished any talk of Van Aanholt making the switch to Goodison Park and it seems unlikely the Palace mainstay will be on the move this summer.

Transfer chief Brands may need to begin looking elsewhere for targets after the latest development, but has the right idea in chasing proven Premier League talents and looking to bolster up the defence.
