Manchester United are interested in signing Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that Jose Mourinho wants a back up option for David De Gea with him resigned to losing Sergio Romero in the summer transfer window.

It is understood that as well as senior Celtic star Gordon, who moved to Parkhead in 2014, United also have Manchester City’s Joe Hart and West Brom’s Ben Foster on their shortlist.

Gordon, who stands at 6ft 3in according to transfermarkt, has made 45 appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys this season as they won the domestic treble.

Good move for Man United?

Gordon has had his critics at Celtic this season and many fans have preferred it when Brendan Rodgers has started Scott Bain over the former Sunderland and Hearts shot-stopper.

At 35-years-of-age, Gordon is not exactly going to get any better either and surely Mourinho would want someone who is a bit younger to play back up to De Gea.

Romero is a decent goalkeeper and if anything, United should try to keep hold of him rather than letting him go and signing one of the three players on their shortlist.

Likely to happen?

Gordon will probably not go anywhere where he is not going to be number one choice and given the fact that Celtic are in the Champions League next season and are chasing down their third domestic treble in a row, there’s no way he will leave.

Chelsea were linked with Gordon last year and he signed a new long-term contract to make a statement.
