Wolves are set to offer Joe Hart a lifeline as he looks for a new club this summer, according to the Times.

The 31-year old 6ft 4 giant spent the last season on loan at West Ham, although things didn’t go according to plan as he lost his place to Adrian.

Hart subsequently missed out on the England World Cup squad and admitted he was “gutted” at Gareth Southgate’s decision.

The Times claim that he cost West Ham £2.5million in wages, with them paying another £2million to City as a loan fee. City then paid this £2million to Hart.

Good move for Wolves?

Joe Hart is a great shot-stopper, world class in fact, but he hasn’t had a good time of things over the past two seasons.

Dropped by Pep Guardiola at Man City for poor distribution, Hart spent a season on loan at Torino where he did okay without overly impressing.

West Ham then brought him back to the Premier League last season, but a series of high-profile mistakes meant he was dropped for Adrian and only made 19 league appearances in total.

That led to him being dropped from the England squad and not even making the reserve list in case a keeper drops out.

It’s a huge drop in status for the former England number one, who won’t have Guardiola on his Christmas card list, but he could still do a very good job for Wolves.

Likely to happen?

This all comes down to financials. Man City were said to have wanted £25million for him last summer but he’s only got a year left on his contract and they will obviously want him off their books.

It doesn’t make sense for them to demand a huge fee that no one will pay, only to send him out on another subsidised loan and then lose him for free next summer.

The Times claim he cost West Ham £2.5million in wages last season and you’d have to think any deal this season would run along similar lines. That just doesn’t stack up financially anymore.

That means a canny club could steal a bargain, although Hart’s wages will still be sky-high.

£10million for Hart though? If Wolves can get his fee anywhere near this then it could be a go-er. Hart would definitely jump at the chance to join a Premier League club with money and on the way up.
