West Ham United are being linked with a £16million swoop for West Brom striker Salomon Rondon, according to a report in The Mirror, but fans are distinctly unimpressed.
Following on from the feeling of positivity surrounding the London Stadium after Manuel Pellegrini’s appointment to the Hammers hotseat, supporters believe that a move for the ten-goal hitman smacks of mediocrity and a step backwards.
The 28-year-old Venezuela international is under contract at the Hawthorns until 2019 but it would seem the rich vein of form the hitman was in towards the end of the campaign is what has led to the interest in him from the Hammers.
Back in January, there was even talk of a move to one of the Premier League so-called big teams for Rondon to Tottenham or Chelsea, who both continue to monitor the player’s situation.
Ten goals in 40 appearances from a relegated club is not a bad outlay but judging by reactions from the Hammers faithful, they are not impressed with the reports.
However, West Ham’s top scorer in this campaign was Marko Arnautovic who scored only one more than Rondon, while Javier Hernandez was next in line with eight goals – perhaps Rondon is not as bad as is being suggested by one fan who said they would rather have “Salaman Rushdie.”
Here is a round-up of reactions from supporters in response to the news:
