Tottenham are targeting West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi following the Black Country club’s relegation from the Premier League, according to ESPN.

The report states that Spurs, along with West Ham and Leicester City, are eyeing the colossus, who stands at 6ft 4in according to Transfermarkt, as Toby Alderweireld’s future remains unclear.

Spurs reportedly want an eye-watering £75million for the Belgium international who is due to enter the final year of his contract this summer.

It is understood that West Brom are bracing themselves for bids for Hegazi after a solid debut season in England.

Good move for Tottenham?

That all depends on what happens with Alderweireld. If Hegazi, who was fantastic for West Brom this season despite their plight, is arriving as a replacement for the Belgian then no – we would say it would be weakening the squad.

If he is being brought in to add to what Mauricio Pochettino’s side already have then he would be a quality back-up.

We cannot see how Hegazi would displace the partnership which has been forged between Jan Vertonghen and Davison Sanchez, but he would be an excellent stand-in.

Likely to happen?

We think that Alderweireld will leave Spurs this summer which means they need to strengthen their defence.

The 27-year-old fits the bill and after having been relegated with the Baggies, it is unlikely he will want to ply his trade in the Championship if the opportunity to continue in the Premier League arises.

Yes. Hegazi to Tottenham is likely but it hinges on the Belgian’s departure from White Hart Lane.
