Those in the Lilywhite half of north London would say there has been a significant power shift in favour of Tottenham – although Arsenal fans will argue that until the end of time.

Spurs have now finished above the Gunners for consecutive seasons and while Mauricio Pochettino and his men grow year on year, Arsene Wenger’s final campaigns at the Emirates saw them regress into top six hopefuls rather than the top four regulars they were for so long.

With the tide changing direction, players could well be looking at Tottenham as their preferred destination, especially with the dynasty of Wenger at an end, Arsenal heading into uncharted territory for the first time in over two decades.

With Unai Emery taking charge, his first port of call will be to address the weaknesses in the squad and look for new targets to strengthen the Gunners and regain ground on their rivals at the top of the table.

The Daily Mail state that they are plotting a raid for West Brom defender Jonny Evans, the 68-cap Northern Ireland international said to be available for £3million – plus £4million as an agency fee – after the Baggies’ relegation.

At £7million, Evans can be considered a steal – which is why Spurs must sideswipe their rivals and snatch up the 30-year-old from under the Gunners’ nose.

Spurs are going to be in need of a new centre back this summer with Toby Alderweireld looking to be on his way, and while Evans might not fit the bill of a long-term replacement, he is more than capable of filling in as backup for a couple of years.

With Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen still at the club, the starting pair are already sorted, and as Alderweireld was hardly missed during his injury absence, Mauricio Pochettino hardly needs to splash the cash right away, instead investing in a £7million bargain.

He is a perfect catch for the Lilywhites, and getting one over their rivals would make it all the sweeter.
