Steven Gerrard has been revealed as the next Rangers manager and he should waste no time in drawing up transfer plans for next season.

The Gers confirmed on their official website that the 37-year-old will become the next Gers boss in the summer and he has joined Ibrox on a four-year deal.

Gerrard has taken up his first senior role in management with the Scottish giants and his only previous coaching experience is with Liverpool’s Under-18s side.

He has a lot of work to do if he is to turn the Light Blues into title challengers for Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic, who have won the last seven consecutive top-flight titles in Scotland.

There has to be an overhaul of the squad during the summer transfer window and Gerrard should get straight onto the phone to his ex-Liverpool teammate Glen Johnson about joining him at Rangers.

Johnson is currently on the books at Stoke and his contract at the bet365 Stadium expires in the summer.

Rangers should definitely try to bring the experienced 33-year-old defender to Ibrox, where he would make a massive impact in the Scottish division.

He has only managed nine appearances this season across all competitions, but the 54-time capped England international has proven over the years his level of consistency and should fancy a new challenge in Scotland.

Gerrard needs to tap into his connections to make these type of deals happen and the Stoke right-back would be a great pick up for his team.

The Daily Mirror has previously reported that current Rangers full-back James Tavernier is being eyed by Premier League trio Swansea, Burnley and Everton.

He is one of the outstanding players currently in the Gers squad and it would take a signing like Johnson to fill his void if he left.

Alternatively, a right-sided flank of Johnson and Tavernier further forward in a wing position would be an exciting proposition that should be explored.
