Rangers 21-year-old midfielder Jordan Thompson has confirmed that he is bitterly disappointed to be leaving the club, just hours after the Livingston loanee earned promotion to the Scottish top-flight.

Thompson joined the Light Blues back in 2015 after being released by Manchester United but the self-confessed Gers fan admitted that it was a sad day for him after revealing the news on Twitter which was relayed in The Scottish Sun, where he said: “Its with a heavy heart my time has come to leave Glasgow Rangers, a club I’ve supported since a young boy.

“Just wish I’d had more opportunity to show my ability and go on to play for this great club.

“It was honestly a dream come true to wear the royal blue shirt in front of you at Ibrox.”

The midfielder, who made just three outings for the club, is the second player to exit the Glaswegian outfit on Monday, after it was also confirmed that Sean Goss would be returning to QPR following the end of his loan spell.

Opinion:

It is a shame to see such a sad reaction from a player who clearly would have relished the opportunity to have played more often for the club he supported as a boy. However the writing was on the wall for Thompson from the moment the Light Blues opted to loan him out to Livingston back in January. It is clear he has done well at the Scottish Championship side where he has been an important part of the side that earned promotion and will hopefully get a chance in the top-flight with the newly-promoted side. The 21-year-old has a point though, he has never really been given the chance to shine, and the fact he has been loaned out so many times shows as much. But with Steven Gerrard’s appointment as manager to the Light Blues, the club now have bigger fish to fry and despite the fact that Thompson would love to have been a part of that, it will not happen now.
