Rangers forward Eduardo Herrera has jetted out to Mexico and he will not return to Glasgow, with his time at the club now over, according to Periodicoel Nacional.

The Mexican newspaper claims on its website that Herrera, 29, is back in his home nation after a frustrating debut season at Ibrox which saw him make just two starts across all competitions.

It is understood that Steven Gerrard is not keen on keeping the centre-forward, who has not played a single minute of Scottish Premiership football in 2018.

Good move for Rangers?

Herrera is one of many poor signings that Pedro Caixinha made last summer when the 29-year-old left Pumas to join Rangers.

He has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Gers and scored just two goals, with the bulk of them coming off the bench.

Although the Mexico international was reported to have cost the Light Blues £1million, there’s little chance that they will get much of that back and they will just have to cut their losses one year into his three-year agreement.

Likely to happen?

It’s pretty much nailed-on that Herrera will be one of many players to leave Ibrox in the coming weeks and months.

Gerrard is set to overhaul the squad with the help of director of football Mark Allen and there are a lot of players that need shifting out.

Herrera is probably one of the worst striker signings that Rangers have made in a long time so there’s no doubt that he will be out of the door by the end of the transfer window.
