Paul Gascoigne believes that Steven Gerrard will be a success at Ibrox after he reportedly agree a deal to become the next Rangers manager.

Sky Sports report that the 37-year-old has agreed a three-year deal in principle to takeover the Light Blues.

It is understood he will jet into Glasgow on Friday to sign the deal and that Gary McAllister will be his assistant.

The report details that Gerrard asked for assurances on transfer budget before agreeing to the role.

Gerrard is currently in charge of Liverpool’s Under-18s and looks set to take his first senior role in management.

Ex-Gers player Gascoigne believes that Liverpool legend Gerrard can achieve something in Scottish football and feels he will be able to attract top players.

“It’s fantastic for Steven and for Rangers,” Gascoigne told Sky Sports News on Friday morning.

“I’m excited for him. It’s great news. What a club it is – it’s massive – and I loved my time up there.I spent two and a half years there and loved it. When I signed for Rangers the players they had were fantastic.

“He’ll love it up there. The pressure is winning games. For Steven going up there, I’m sure he’ll achieve something. The good thing for him is he’s keen, he’s young and he’s eager. Most importantly though, he’s a winner and players want to play for a winner.”

OPINION

Gerrard appears to be on the verge of his move to Ibrox and there is obviously a huge buzz around his expected arrival. It is a huge role to take on for his first senior role in football, but if he is half as good as a manager than he was as a player he should past the test with flying colours. The Gers are still in the hunt for second next season and that will be a big lift going into next year if they can secure that position. Gerrard will know that there are a number of players in the squad that aren’t up to scratch and there should be a big overhaul if they hope to get anywhere near to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic next season. Gerrard should look to use his connections at Liverpool to bring in some new faces and exploring the loan market could be very useful for them.
