Celtic have been making strides to sign Odsonne Edouard from Paris Saint-Germain for a record-breaking £10million fee but now the deal is in doubt due to a mystery club entering the hunt, according to The Scottish Sun.

The report states that as a result, the Hoops are now in danger of not getting their target after the French champions previously set a May 31 deadline to get the deal over the line.

It is understood that this new club has made an approach for the PSG forward.

Edouard, 20, only arrived at the Scottish champions last summer on a year-long loan deal but made an immediate impact, notching up 11 goals and four assists in a total of 29 outings for Brendan Rodgers’ men.

OPINION

This is really bad news for Celtic. However, there are still a couple of days to go to get the deal completed before the May deadline, so there is still a possibility that there is no threat to stop the transfer from going through. With Moussa Dembele struggling for form this season and unable to recapture the sizzling displays that made him a Parkhead hero in 2016/17, and Leigh Griffiths spending a large portion of the season on the sidelines, the Hoops cannot allow the transfer of Edouard to fall through at such a late stage. To score the number of goals he has done in his debut season is a sign that there is an awful lot more to come from the young French U19 international and £10million is probably a small price to pay these days for a proven goalscorer. However, by the sounds of it, Brendan Rodgers and co. will need to get their skates on.
