Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur has asserted that he is going nowhere this summer despite being linked with Rangers and Aston Villa.

The Daily Mail has reported that the Ibrox giants are interested in signing Gers-mad McArthur, 30, in the summer transfer window, however it would completely depend on how much funds Steven Gerrard has to spend.

However that seems irrelevant now as the Scotland international, who is a boyhood Rangers supporter, has confirmed that he is unmoved by speculation and wants to spend the rest of his career at Selhurst Park.

“I’m not bothered [about the speculation],” he said, as quoted by London News Online.

“I’m a Palace player, I love it here. I want to stay here. I’d love to finish my career here. I love it.

“It’s a great bunch, the fans are amazing, the manager; everyone at the club has been brilliant since I stepped foot in the place.”

OPINION

It was always going to be a stretch for Rangers to sign McArthur, who has been in top form for Crystal Palace this season as they avoided relegation from the Premier League. He has been a mainstay for Roy Hodgson’s side, appearing 35 times across all competitions for the Eagles, as well as scoring seven goals. The Light Blues have already started making signings after their season ended with Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy all agreeing deals at Ibrox. There’s no way that with them three already snapped up that the club could afford a mainstay of a Premier League club that is not desperate for cash in the slightest. McArthur says that he wants to stay at Selhurst Park for the rest of his career, but as soon as he starts to age and drops down the pecking order, he could decide that the time is right to move north of the border – and that is what Rangers must hold out for, if his quality has not diminished.
